Elizabeth Kelley

Elizabeth discovered yoga at the ripe age of 14, and began practicing regularly when we was 19. She quickly realized that she felt her best when she was on the mat, which slowly and surely translated itself to the time off the mat; it seems now that the yoga saturates every part of life, whether we recognize it or not.  She received her certification in Vinyasa yoga from the Bhava Yoga School under Kathleen Flanagan and Jessica Kaniuka. She is certified in prenatal yoga through the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, and was trained in Reiki II at an early age by her very wise Reiki Master mother.

She believes in the potent power of yoga to open the heart, to quiet the mind, and to create balance and equilibrium in being. She strives to teach classes in which students can sink deeply into the body, find strength in the breath, and connect with the beauty and peace of practice.  Off the mat, she works with kids, makes juice, gardens, dances, and writes for her yoga blog. She feels so blessed to be part of the Yogave Community!

Liz Bicherl

I started practicing yoga 7 years ago, when I was convinced to go to a class by my mum. I fell in love instantly, and was hooked. Then I was the one convincing others to practice with me, after experiencing the mental and physical benefits in my own body.

Wanting to share the gift that is Yoga, I obtained my 200 hour certification through the Namaste Institute for Hollistic Studies in Rockland, Maine in December 2011, and I am registered with the National Yoga Alliance. I am also excited about being accepted into the May 2012 OM Yoga Center’s Women Cancer Survivor Teacher Training in NYC.

I teach Hatha and Yinyasa flow styles that focus on alignment with mindful sequences, while encouraging my students to uncover their own power and energy. I am drawn to many traditions of Yoga, so I like to weave together the different styles into my classes.

Liz Leuthner

Liz is a Bhakti yoga and meditation teacher whose style is rooted in the philosophy that anything is possible when there is an honest willingness to let go of old ideas and try something new. This is the yoga: practicing, learning and making adjustments – asana’s breathing and alignment…life’s actions and experiences. Liz loves that yoga invites us to try different postures, develop new outlooks, have new experiences – and let go of fears of falling and failing. Her own experience is that the spiritual practice of yoga helps purify the body and release the mind, opening the heart to a new sense of freedom and responsibility. Liz’s classes typically include traditional Bhakti chanting (always optional) and smiling (highly encouraged).

A Connecticut native and long-time resident of Rhode Island, Liz moved to Portland in 2011 and completed her 200-hour certification at Bhava Yoga School, where she also taught vinyasa, community and 12-step-based yoga classes and led heart-alignment meditation. She considers it her blessing, her duty, her love, to make that experience accessible to all. In addition to teaching at Yogavé, Liz is honored to offer seva yoga and heart meditation weekly at Hope.Gate.Way. in Portland, and at retreats and workshops for groups around the state, including My Sister’s Keeper, Cape Elizabeth; Maine Alliance for Addiction Recovery, Augusta; and The Alcyon Center, Seal Cove.

Liz offers pranams to her teachers: Jessica Kaniuka and Kathleen Flanagan in Maine, Denise Porter-Kemp in New Hampshire, Tom Gillette in Rhode Island and so many, many more she learns from every day, in every way.

Melissa Fox

From an early age, Melissa was drawn to movement. She found tremendous euphoria in dancing barefoot and running free, the wind in her hair. It wasn’t until a couple of years ago that her life began to change. She moved to Maine with her family and started a new life. She
was craving something greater, and after much soul-searching she found herself at Yogave.

At the end of her first class, she lay in Savasana sobbing tears of peace and joy. She had been cracked wide open. With every subsequent yoga class, she felt the joy of running barefoot and free coming back in waves of sheer bliss. It didn’t take long to understand that this was exactly where she was supposed to be. Her path to teach yoga illuminated before her.

Melissa completed her 200 hour Yoga Alliance teacher training certification with Jessica Kanuika and Kathleen Flanagan at Bhava Yoga School, here in Portland, Maine. She has learned how to harness this gift and turn her love for yoga into an all-encompassing vinyasa class that allows the Prana to flow through asana, pranayama, chanting and meditation - all of these together creating the space for the mind to quiet and the heart to open. She continues to practice at Yogave as a student and now joins the community as a teacher hoping to share her self, her heart and her Yoga.

Amy Page

Amy discovered yoga as an undergrad in 2004, finding that solace on the mat can lead to peace in the mind, even when the mind is cluttered with multivariate calculus. Ever since, yoga has been her method for finding the balance between effort and ease, logic and love. She has spent the past eight years cultivating a strong personal practice and recently completed her 200-Hour Teacher Training after several years of waiting for the right opportunity.

After spending years teaching dance, Amy is eager to share her love of movement in a new way, bringing her enthusiastic approach to yoga to her beloved Yogave community by offering a powerful vinyasa practice that encourages inner strength and loving devotion, focused on quieting the mind and challenging the body. Amy is extremely grateful to those who have assisted her in realizing the beauty and peace that yoga has brought to her life. She hopes to inspire her students to use yoga to discover and travel their own paths to fulfillment.
